The Artistic Professions have reached a total of 217 at present, and are listed by a ministerial byelaw dated the 12 December 2003. They are divided into 19 sectors of activity, of arts and popular world traditions, including the professions linked to heritage and are regrouped in three large domains:

To define a profession as a profession of the Arts, three criteria must come together:
- The know-how or techniques based on transformation of a material,
- Production of unique objects or a small series presenting an artistic character,,
- The mastering of a technique carried out in the tradition.
Today the Professions of the Arts regroup over 37,000 companies of varying legal and economic entities: from the one-person workshop, to the family-run business, passing by the artist and employee of a luxury goods company to the free-lancer. From artisans to small businesses, these companies employ roughly 95,000 people. In the domain of construction, the jeweler professions or in the furniture trade, the Artistic Professions recruit roughly 20,000 specialists per annum.
This sector generates a turnover of 7,6 million Euros.
