Why the JMA

Les Journées des Métiers d’Art (The Days of Artistic Professions) were initiated by the Department for Small and Medium sized businesses, commerce, crafts and the self-employed, in 2002, in order to allow the general public to discover the richness, diversity and the reality of 217 exceptional professions.
These “Days” are coordinated, at national level, by SEMA : la Société d’encouragement aux Métiers d’Art (Society for the Promotion of Arts and Crafts).

The Days of Artistic Professions are the ideal opportunity to invite each one of you to become initiated into the world of Artistic Professions.
Big and small, attracted by art and creation, in search of training or simple curiosity everyone is invited to participate in this national event.

This event has had ever-increasing success since it’s creation, proving the interest the public has in professions of tradition, creation and restoration. In 2006, over one million people, throughout France, visited the workshops, training centers and exhibitions where professionals offered a guided visit, demonstrations of their craft and art together with discussion and debate.
